Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) – This programme was funded by the Department of Public Works together with the Independent Development Trust to create job opportunities for the unemployed, with a monthly stipend payment of R1 100.00 per beneficiary. REC participated in this programme from 2009 till 2015. In that period REC managed to create 5650 job opportunities in ten local municipalities.

Community Works Programme (CWP) – This programme was initiated   in partnership with the Department of Cooperative Governance. This was an initiative designed to provide an employment safety net, by providing participants with stipend based on predictable number of days of work per month- thus supplementing their existing livelihood activities and affording them a basic level of income security through work. The programme is targeted at unemployed and/or underemployed people of working age. This programme was implemented at community sites designed to employ a minimum of 1000 people per site for two days a week or eight days a month. REC implemented the CWP in Flagstaff, Bizana and Lusikisiki with a total number of 4120 beneficiaries for the period of 2013 till 2015

Mobile Toy Library

This programme is the first of its kind in the Eastern Cape. Our mobile toy library service about 3000 rural ECD sites. The mobile toy library is filled with world class toys and learning equipment so as to bridge the gap between rural and urban ECD learner. The focus groups for this programme are the ECD learners and the ECD practitioners who receive on the job training every time the mobile Toy Library visits their sites
